First Exhibitions and Papermaking
Vivienne Light's first solo exhibitions were at the Nuffield Theatre, University of Southampton, (1989), Bromham Mill Gallery, Bedfordshire (1990), Natural History Museum, Tring (1991) and Theatre Royal, Winchester (1994). These were followed by a number of two-person shows at Salisbury Arts Care Trust (1996), Bristol Guild Gallery and Maltby Gallery, Winchester. During the 1990s she also exhibited in selected, mixed exhibitions around the country, including venues in Harrogate, Kettering, Letchworth and Hitchin. In addition she also showed at Artsway New Forest; Fisherton Mill Salisbury; Quay Arts Gallery Isle of Wight and Yard Gallery Nottingham.

Initially, her work was textile based but increasingly became mixed-media, incorporating handmade plant papers. The colours of these papers range from cream and soft-ochre through to grey, burnt umber and black. Amongst plants used are willow-catkins, bluebells, iris leaves and red hot poker. Each paper is unique and distinctive in colour, weight, texture and transparency.
