This catalogue was published to coincide with an exhibition of Robin Welch's paintings and ceramics at Maltby Gallery, Winchester. Although Welch continues to live in Stradbroke, Suffolk, he has spent, and continues to spend, considerable time in different countries and locations abroad, including Australia. Time spent working out of the country gives his work a uniqueness and open-endedness, that shies away from the more contemporary concerns of many British potters. Welch's pots hover on the borders of functionality; they speak more of the heat and rough geology of land than of the cool, containment of contoured climes and forms. Each a tactile, visual presence, Welch's pots retain a closeness to their origin, to their place of conception.
To date, this is the only publication solely dedicated to this ceramic artist.
