Overview: Paul Jones Author Paul Jones With 149 full colour images of his paintings, 20 drawings, 20 poems and a comprehensive text, Paul Jones has produced a detailed overview of his creative work during the last four decades. This is a record of an artist who has committed himself to creating thoughtful, contemplative and inspirational paintings founded in his love of landscape... They are not landscape paintings as such but are ‘to do with the shadows which lie beneath the surface; the fragments and traces of human kind; of ancient history…’ ‘These paintings are born out of time and heat, his extraordinary making process replaying the creation through destruction of the ancient landscape which is his subject’. Fiona Robinson in ’Fifty Wessex Artists’ published by Evolver ‘His subtle work seems to get right to the heart of the ancient landscape…’ Fanny Charles Paul Jones studied at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, at a time when Adrian Heath, Robyn Denny and Howard Hodgkin were tutors. After achieving his NDD he taught Art and Pottery at Bournville Grammar School and in 1969 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. A career change to Graphic Design led him to relocate to Dorset where he had his first major exhibition in 1979. This move gave him his first encounter with Dorset’s chalk downland and spectacular coastline. Today, it continues to inspire much of his work. Prolific by nature, he exhibits nationally. He has work in both public and private collections including UNESCO, 3Ms, Eldridge Pope, Longleat House and Dorset County Council.
